Whether you’re looking for a peaceful vacation visiting the many fantastic towns and villages that lie all along Croatia’s Adriatic shoreline, or you fancy a bit of island hopping from Mljet to Vis, or maybe you just want to take a break and enjoy a total immersion experience sailing along the warm Adriatic currents, you’ll find all this and more if you choose a yachting holiday in Croatia.
The Croatian coastline is known as ‘the coast with the most’ for very good reasons. First there are the fantastic beaches. In fact, the beaches of Croatia are one of its most outstanding and enduring features that will stay in the memories of its visitors for the rest of their lives. Croatia’s coastline is the second cleanest in Europe. Tending to be composed of pebbles rather than sand, the best beaches are to found on the islands, which we’ll get to a little later. There’s well over 1700 kilometers of mainland beaches to choose from and if you get fed up with that you can always take your yacht and choose from an added 4000 kilometers of beaches that you’ll find on the islands.
Now onto the islands… there’s something here for everyone. If you’re into a bit of ‘spot the celebrity’ you should choose a visit to Hvar, the posh port. Along its old road’s, this island offers olive and lavender groves, panoramic views from the summit, all surrounded by ancient stone walls.
Depending on how many days you have chartered your boat in Croatia, you could visit the romantic hideaway of Vis. Mooring your vessel in one of the fabulous and secluded bays that are tucked along the Vis coastline, you have a choice of taking a leisurely tour of the island, wandering through the fragrant olive plantations, vineyards, and orchards, or finding a quiet restaurant for a spot of afternoon cuisine. The emerald sea around these parts is alive with bottlenose dolphin and loggerhead turtles. The best way to see them, and the other delights that the sub-aqua Adriatic has to offer, is by donning your snorkeling gear and spending an hour or two blissfully floating in this oceanic wonderland.
The final island I would recommend you pay a visit to is Korcula (pronounced kor-chula). The legends of this island are many, but one in particular credits the founding of the island to Antenor, the Trojan hero who’s also credited with founding Padua. Korcula is a haven for those seeking culture and tradition. But there’s a very modern and liberal feel as well which is fully highlighted by the widespread nudism that you’ll encounter on the beaches, from both tourists and locals alike.
Yachting has to be one of the most pleasant and relaxing sports you can take part in. It’s a carefree life with the sounds and feel of the water splashing against the side of you craft, the wind filling up your sails and brushing across your face, and the distant horizon beckoning you to your destination. The whole scene makes for an ideal of relaxation and pleasure. Add to that the sheer adventure of Yachting in Croatia and you have the whole package for your ideal vacation. Whether your yachting adventure lasts a week or a month, you’ll find an endless list of things to do and see in this Adriatic paradise.
